Speech Board - Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 24, 2026
Overview
Speech Board is a voice-to-text keyboard. This policy explains what data is processed when you use it, why, who processes it, and how to delete it.
What we process and why
Your voice and text
- When you dictate, the recording is sent over HTTPS to the Speech Board server, which forwards it to our speech-recognition provider (Groq). The resulting text, with any of your vocabulary words it contains, is then tidied up or translated by our language-model provider (Anthropic, or Groq when Anthropic is unavailable) and returned to you.
- When you use a writing tool (fix grammar, summarize, translate, or a tool you create), the text is sent the same way to our language-model provider (Anthropic, or Groq when Anthropic is unavailable).
- We do not store your recordings or the resulting text. They pass through our server only for the duration of the request and are not written to our database or our logs. Our providers process them under their own terms and may keep them for a limited time, for example to detect misuse.
Your account
To give you a free weekly allowance and let you subscribe, the app creates an account automatically on first launch:
- Anonymous account ID from Firebase Authentication (Google). No name, email or phone number is needed.
- Sign in with Apple (optional). If you choose to sign in, Firebase receives the identifier Apple provides and, if you share them, your name and email (which Apple may relay through a private address).
- Installation ID, a random identifier stored in your device keychain, so the free allowance is not reset by reinstalling.
- Usage counters: the number of words dictated and processed this week. Not the words themselves.
Device integrity
Firebase App Check (using Apple's App Attest) confirms requests come from the genuine Speech Board app on a real device. It does not identify you personally.
Usage analytics
To learn which features are used and where people get stuck, the app and the keyboard send usage events to Mixpanel and to Google Analytics (part of Firebase). For example: which screens you open and which settings you change, the steps of setup, that a dictation, translation or writing tool ran (its length in seconds and words, the languages and writing style, whether it worked), keyboard sessions with counts such as characters typed or suggestions used, and subscription steps (the paywall shown, a purchase started or completed).
- Events are linked to your anonymous account ID. They include device and app details (model, iOS version, app version, language) and an approximate location (country and city) that the providers work out from your IP address.
- Never sent: your recordings, the text you dictate or type, your notes or history, your vocabulary words, the names and instructions of your own styles and tools, or anything from the field you are typing in. For the app you use the keyboard in, only its category (such as "messaging") is sent, plus the identifier of well-known apps (such as Mail or WhatsApp).
- No advertising identifier (IDFA) is collected, and events are not used for advertising or shared with data brokers.
- Usage analytics are part of the app and cannot be turned off in it. To have your events deleted, contact us.
Subscriptions
Purchases are handled by Apple. RevenueCat receives your account ID and your purchase and subscription status so we know whether you are on the Pro plan. We never see your payment details.
What stays on your device
- App preferences (languages, writing styles, tools)
- Your dictation history (the text, when it was made and which app you used the keyboard in) and your notes. You can turn history off or clear it in Settings.
- Debug logs, only if you turn them on, stored locally
To show app names and icons in your history, the app asks Apple's public App Store lookup service for the name of each app you used the keyboard in. Only the app's identifier is sent, never your text.
We do not use advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising. Usage analytics (above) are used only to improve Speech Board.
Service providers
| Provider | Purpose | Data |
|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the Speech Board server and database | Account ID, installation ID, weekly word counts, request metadata (time, status) |
| Groq | Speech recognition, and dictation clean-up and writing tools when Anthropic is unavailable | Audio and text of each request |
| Anthropic | Dictation clean-up, voice translation and writing tools | Text of each dictation and writing-tool request |
| Google Firebase | Account sign-in, App Check and Google Analytics | Anonymous or Apple-linked account ID, device attestation, usage events, device and app details, approximate location |
| Mixpanel | Usage analytics | Account ID, usage events, device and app details, approximate location |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status | Account ID, purchase history |
| Apple | Payments, Sign in with Apple, App Attest | As described in Apple's privacy policy |
Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and terms: Groq, Anthropic, Cloudflare, Firebase, Mixpanel, RevenueCat.
Keyboard Full Access
The keyboard needs "Allow Full Access" to reach the shared audio recording from the Speech Board app and to send it for transcription. Speech Board does not log or transmit what you type with other keyboards or the text in the field you are typing into, except text you explicitly send to a writing tool: the selected text, or the text in the field when you choose "Your Text" or "Edit by Voice". Word suggestions and auto-correction in the Speech Board keyboard work on your device and send nothing. For usage analytics the keyboard counts taps, such as how many characters were typed or suggestions used, never which keys or words.
Retention and deletion
- Recordings and text: not retained by us. Groq and Anthropic may keep request data for a limited time under their own terms.
- Weekly word counters: kept for the current and past weeks for quota enforcement.
- Usage analytics: kept by Mixpanel and Google Analytics to show trends over time, then deleted under each provider's retention settings. To have yours deleted sooner, contact us.
- Delete your account at any time in the app: Settings > Account > Delete Account. This deletes your account, usage history and subscription record from our systems and revokes Sign in with Apple. An active App Store subscription must be cancelled separately in your Apple ID settings.
- A counter tied only to the random installation ID is kept so the free allowance cannot be reset by deleting the account; it contains no personal information.
Children
Speech Board is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
We may update this policy. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
